Our HR team is getting really busy since a last few weeks. After being slow (well almost non-existent) for a couple of quarters, hiring is back on the agenda. And with a bang! New project wins have been quite impressive in the last couple of months and all indications are towards a stronger demand in coming quarters (hopefully years!). No wonder some of these requirements are URGENT! You know how it is after clients sign on the dotted line. They want everything as on yesterday. No worries – that’s anyways – what I call – “a good problem to deal with”.
Looks like a season for Awards; and as a vibrant community, it was about
time LearnTrends joined in. Tony Karrer, Jay Cross and George Siemens have announced the first-ever LearnTrends2009 Innovation awards. They say “The awards will recognize products, projects, and companies that represent significant innovation in Corporate/Workplace Learning and Performance.” I like the idea, a focused award for innovation.
After we posted a list of the Top 47 eLearning & Workplace Learning Blogs last month, we have received several more recommendations (here on this blog and in a related discussion on LinkedIn) for adding more blogs to that list. Apart from these, we’ve discovered a few more blogs worth following – and these have been added to the list. A total of 27 blogs have been added to the original list.
For an eLearning initiative to be successful, strong leaders and champions are needed in the organization. It also needs a robust and reliable LMS solution amongst others (great courses, proper alignment of the training function with the LMS, technical support for the entire setup, etc.) The LMS remains a key link in the success chain.
When new employees join at Upside Learning, I tell them – “Making mistakes is ok because you learn from them and that’s the real value of a mistake as it gets you ready for success. So go ahead, work with a free mind, give your best, and everything else would be fine”. Note that it’s not a license to make mistakes it is the freedom to try your best and be ok when you make mistakes. I also tell them “while committing mistakes is ok, repeating them is not, as then the mistake is really costly – to them and to the company, as we did not get anything (hoping for some learning there) out of it”
Today we reach a significant milestone as we release UpsideLMS Version 4.0 – a comprehensive, fully-featured learning management system delivered on a robust, scalable and reliable architecture. It’s extremely satisfying for me personally as the chief architect of the system since its first release. Here I am sharing a quick overview of what’s new in Version 4.0 and I encourage you to take a tour OR a trial and let me know of your thoughts on the latest version of our product.
It’s been an interesting start of the week, with the tiny Regifting game going viral of sorts within our office. Hit the jump and you’ll see just why.

On 3rd September, the Upside Learning Blog completed six months of existence. Its a good time to review how we have done thus far and to move the goal posts. The blog has 70 posts, attracted 150+ comments, has around 300 subscribers (reported from FeedBurner), and has received over 22,000 page views.
I’d been waiting for the results of the Unofficial Salary Survey 2009 after we wrote about it about 6 weeks back. This year the survey got over 100 responses from eLearning professionals in India – up from 54 last year. At such a growth rate this survey has the potential to be a good benchmarking source for Indian eLearning companies.
