I agree, as long as the strategy is thought-out before plunging in either of an open source and a commercial LMS would work well. My intention is to make the decision more informed and based more on facts and not on assumptions. Thanks.</description>

It is also true that no open source solution is going to be a right fit and if there are costs that are higher in maintaining/customizing the open source LMS, its wiser to go for a commercial one. On the other hand, if the risks and costs associated are a thought-about strategy then a savvy user organization can do wonders with an open source LMS. I mean, just look at the options available, you can even decide if you are a PHP fan or would like to go the traditional JAVA way. There are also options on if there needs to be pedagogical inclination or a strict corporate result oriented flavor in the open source LMS.
