I was surprised to see this Buzz app in my email the other day. I immediately recognized it as being similar to the Google Wave that I had been trying out. I guess I will wait because for all the buildup, I am not sure that people are really catching on just yet. I see the potential here. But the next big thing is only as big as the people that use it. Good idea, but will it go the way of the beta max or the mini disc (good ideas that juuuuust never caught on)?

Mobile location-based buzzing: one scenario could be for field staff like a new Fedex employee that checks in with supervisor as they make their rounds, asking questions and getting feedback.

Indeed, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the Google Buzz the last few days. I have not yet used it. I, like you, am interested to see if it will be received in the e-learning environment. I think the social integration and the ease of responding through gmail is definitely an advantage.

It is unfortunate that most workplaces block out social media. Employees of most organizations will not be able to access Google Buzz at least for some more time. You are right about emulating features from such tools into learning technology tools that the 'officially' acceptable.

Thanks for posting this, great summary. In answer to your question, need to first spend some time buzzing...will come back. Initial thoughts - seems like a mashup between jabber and twitter - liking it.
