I definitely agree, the future of e-learning is Mobile as we can already see that many big corporations use smart phones for their training programs.

Hi Amit,
Welcome to the US and glad to hear your trip thus far has been productive and the fact you're heading to San Diego for mLearnCon too. We concur with your observation that interest in mLearning in the enterprise has certainly accelerated in recent months here in North America. In our experience, we've moved from the tepid market interest/tire kicking phases of the past 3-4 years into what I now refer to as "The Year of Mobile Learning Pilot" where organizations are now committing resources (teams and $$) to explore the questions/challenges you outlined above and in other recent posts (e.g., device/OS diversity, lack of support for Flash content, SCORM playback online and while disconnected). Accordingly, vendors like Upside Learning and OnPoint Digital (and the rest of the sponsors exhibiting at mLearnCon) need to demonstrate our ability to resolve issues NOW which should lead to improvements and better results for all once the 6-12 months maturation process you postulate has played out.
From my perspective, the myriad challenges we face today in mLearning make us much smarter and better prepared to deal with improving market conditions coming just around the corner ahead. After all, the pilots of 2010 will become the production-grade deployments of 2011 and beyond and we'll be better prepared to scale and support these efforts.
There's no denying it; mobile learning -- while still in its infancy -- is now an accepted fact not a future fiction. And important events like mLearnCon help pave the way for everyone in our industry to start sharing and collaborating to ensure today's pilots become tomorrows deployments.
Finally, I think your blog is one of the very best in the learning space - both informative and stylish. Keep up the good work and I hope to meet you out in San Diego next week.
