Adobe recently announced AIR for Mobile devices. This is an outcome of the Adobe initiated Open Screen Project, which was started a couple of years back. The Open Screen Project was started to help create a singular experience on multiple devices (using Flash) be it Computers, Mobiles, TV or Game consoles. On Feb 15, 2010, at Mobile World Congress 2010, Adobe announced Adobe AIR for mobile devices, a consistent runtime for standalone applications which is an outcome of Adobe initiated Open-Screen project. As quoted by Adobe, the Open-Screen project has grown to around 70 ecosystem partners world-wide, which means many devices would be made capable of supporting the outcomes of this Adobe initiative. To begin with it will be available on Android in 2010. Adobe also unveiled Flash player 10.1 beta to developers and content providers at the same event.

I’d been waiting for the results of the Unofficial Salary Survey 2009 after we wrote about it about 6 weeks back. This year the survey got over 100 responses from eLearning professionals in India – up from 54 last year. At such a growth rate this survey has the potential to be a good benchmarking source for Indian eLearning companies.

Mozilla’s Firefox is a preferred web browser for many. Since its last major release in June 2009 it has already crossed one billion downloads and to celebrate that Mozilla Foundation has even launched this website http://www.onebillionplusyou.com.

Last month Tony Karrer posted this interesting piece on the Business of Learning on his blog – eLearning Technology. It provoked a discussion on the topic with many different perspectives brought to bear.

Upside Learning has picked up 2 awards at the 21st Annual Apex Awards for Publication Excellence 2009. You may ask – what is a learning solutions company doing at publication awards? Well, the core of what we do is communication and Apex has categories for the kind of work eLearning vendors do.

Adobe has launched a limited free preview of its BrowserLab, an online service that allows users to preview web pages in different browsers and operating systems to identify potential issues. Registration for the free preview access is currently closed, although the site’s Wiki section mentions that it would be made available again soon.

I came across this interesting post by Cammy Bean about cultural differences in the use of audio in eLearning. Her colleague, Mark Harrison, believes that audio is used a lot less in eLearning in the UK than in the US and she is exploring the reasons for this.

Time and again, we have seen Flash being extended in unique ways by leveraging the power of AS3. We caught something in the feeds yesterday that truly took us by surprise – face recognition using Flash. Check out the video here.
