Started as a division of Jergens, Inc., Tooling U is a leading online-training provider focused on the unique needs of manufacturers located in Cleveland, Ohio.
With hundreds of online training classes written for metal manufacturers, welders, assemblers, and maintenance professionals, it has developed an extensive catalog of manufacturing-specific content and innovative learning tools to help manufacturers bolster their expertise and leverage their people to successfully compete in today’s economy.
For learning to be effective it is important that the learner is provided with a system wherein he can apply his newly acquired knowledge to solve problems and seek solutions. Hence, with a view to revising & reinforcing the managerial knowledge gained through its existing online courses, Tooling U wanted to create an engaging learning experience for the user.
They required an interactive scenario-based output that not just reflected the real life problems and situations but also enabled the learner to test his knowledge in a risk-free environment.
Scenarios present different situations and circumstances that may be encountered in real life and involve the learner in making the most appropriate response. Using this as a base, Upside Learning adopted a guided discovery approach to design a series of scenarios to supplement Tooling U’s online courses which were predominantly static in nature. This allowed the learners to be presented with real-life situations and demanded them to take suitable decisions to achieve specific objectives or resolve given problems.
Appropriate practice questions were interspersed throughout the labs as decision making points.
To make the learning more effective, Upside Learning proposed to have a photo shoot done specific to the scenarios. This helped mimic the real situations to the fullest and gave a feel of reality.
The above approach made the course very engaging and at the same time helped the learner to relate to it with day-to-day scenarios they face.
