Augmented Reality Marketing Today
I ran into this interesting infographic this morning about Augmented Reality marketing today. While it’s not completely relevant to eLearning or learning in general, it’s interesting to see that AR is making rapid strides in marketing. Also, the figures seem to suggest that while it’s gimmicky, it improves engagement and gets individuals to spend more time on those website that use AR.
At Upside we do experiment with AR on and off, and are doing so currently as well.
Here are links to a couple of our AR experiments.

Eventually, as learning designers we are going to figure out how to use AR constructively in blended learning programs. I’ve seen some fine AR examples for the K12 segment; as well as some great corporate learning examples. On the downside, without standardized libraries and hardware capable of rendering such experiences, there is a risk that not all learners/users will be able to experience AR using their current hardware/software combinations. I’m itching to find AR an application in corporate learning, it will be fun to include contextually relevant AR in a training program.
