Mobile Usage Among The Youth

The Neilsen Company, the well-known advertising and market research company published an interesting report recently about mobile phone usage amongst youth in certain countries. You can download the report here. (registration required)

Some critical insights from the report:

Young adults choose their own devices, only 16% of the sample reported that parents selected the phones for them.
Person Responsible For Device Selection

In the age group 15-24, price is a key driver in device selection.

Price Top Ranked Purchase Driver

Europe, mainly Italy and Spain leads in smart-phone penetration. India on the other hand has very low smart-phone penetration. Also, the sample is skewed heavily toward male usage of smart-phones.

Smartphone Penetration

There are lots of other interesting bits in the report; well worth the time to download and read if you’re into the design of mobile learning. Such research assumes more significance if the design of mobile learning is to be meaningful for a younger learner audience.
