Mobile Learning for Single Location Enterprise

Written by

Recently I met a well-known retailer, with physical presence in just one location. They have a decent training setup including sales and training academies, and they do induction and other compliance training. However, they’ve not ventured into elearning yet. But, they do wish to get started with mobile learning now. Does that sound odd?

Actually not!

The 2014 Towards Maturity report titled Mobile Learning in The Workplace, found that high proportion of early adopters of mLearning are organizations that have not done much eLearning earlier (see graphic below). So these organizations are leapfrogging from classroom training to mobile, skipping the eLearning stage completely.

And there are very valid reasons for that.

  • A single location makes it much more convenient to conduct classroom training.
  • Availability of computers is also a factor, especially for retailers where most of the floor staff may not have any access to computers.

So what could such single location organizations use mLearning for?

  1. Supplementing their classroom & other training initiatives.
  2. Letting staff interact with each other in discussion forums via mobile.
  3. Get necessary compliance training delivered and completed. Especially for those hard to catch staff, that is always on the move.
  4. Conduct surveys and assessments on the go.

Any other mLearning application you can think of?
