Is Mandatory Compliance eLearning Doing More Harm Than Good?
I think it is. Here’s how –
Most compliance training is really aimed at ticking the boxes. With practically no real learning happening (or even expected to happen) it’s an exercise all parties are happy to get done with quickly. Mind you real compliance is about behaviour and not just knowledge, but that’s another topic altogether.
In addition to being what it is, there is a just a whole lot of compliance training mandated for some industries like finance. I learnt recently that new sales people in banks have to complete upto 40 compliance training within first 2 months of joining. That is one per day!! No wonder they would hate all elearning after going through that.
So effectively compliance elearning is setting up the whole elearning industry for a bad name and huge push back from learners. Learners just cringe at the name of another elearning course. Motivation which is the key for any learning to happen has been robbed off our learners by our bad (and huge amounts of) compliance elearning.
This needs to change.
