Considering a high-risk setting such as the healthcare domain merited approaching the solution in an application-focused way. The intervention needed to be one that not only communicated the best practices, but placed learners in situations that they might normally encounter and be able to choose the best practices to address them.
Upside Learning therefore designed a solution with two main modes – Learn and Play. The Learn mode offered the opportunity for direct content consumption through text, graphics, and images, along with supporting examples. In the Play mode, learners had the chance to identify patients at the risk of infection in hemodialysis settings. This activity enabled a direct application of the concepts and best practices the learners went through in Learn mode. The interactive scenarios mimicked the actual surroundings healthcare workers deal with in real life.

A guided discovery approach to design a series of interactive ‘labs’ —a series of learning units categorized as per subject like welding, machining, etc.—wrapped into scenarios to provide learners the chance to experience mechanical and engineering related real-life situations and take suitable decisions.
